Interdisciplinary Center for Empirical Research on Teachers and Teaching (IZeF)

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Empirical Research on Teachers and Teaching (IZeF) is a scientific body of the Faculty of Human Sciences of the University of Cologne. It brings together relevant research activities that are carried out in close cooperation with the educational sciences (educational and social sciences, psychology), special needs education as well as subject-specific teaching.

At the University of Cologne, the IZeF stands for high-profile empirical educational research that focuses on the current and relevant topics of teacher competence, the effectiveness of teacher education and teaching challenges in the areas of inclusion, heterogeneity, digitalization and language education. The focus, which is embedded in various collaborations and networks within and outside the University of Cologne, is on various activities relating to research - mostly in the form of actionable projects – as well as the support of young researchers.
