Future strategy for teacher education: Field of action “quality assurance”

In addition to the four listed AGs of the IZeF, there is also the field of quality assurance. It is one of four areas of the project "Future Strategy for Teacher Education Cologne (ZuS) - Shaping Heterogeneity and Inclusion". The general coordination of quality assurance is integrated in the IZeF. The quality assurance has four central tasks:

First and second funding phase

Following the successfully evaluated project "Future Strategy for Teacher Education" (ZuS) of the first funding phase, the second funding phase of the project started in January 2019 under the title "ZuS Transfer". This will give the innovations of ZuS, which were piloted between 2015 and 2018 and have since proven their worth, a structurally anchored place at the University of Cologne. In addition to these transfer tasks, the target dimensions of ZuS were expanded: In addition to the target dimension "inclusive education" from the first funding phase, two further target dimensions are now added as task areas: digital education and language education. Thus, ZuS addresses the three central challenges in education, which are teaching in heterogeneous classes, the critical-constructive use of digital resources and the teaching of educational language skills in the context of multilingualism. To be specific, the three target dimensions in the four defined fields of action are implemented as follows: Quality assurance will be expanded into a comprehensive monitoring system for teacher training at the University of Cologne and structurally anchored in the IZeF. For the target dimensions "inclusive and language education" a comprehensive test inventory for the key qualification "lesson planning competence" will be developed, which contains subject-related, subject-didactic and pedagogical components and is intended to illustrate the competence acquisition of prospective teachers in the context of theoretical and practical learning opportunities. The newly developed test inventory for lesson planning competence was already used in the Education Monitoring 2019. In cooperation with the Media Labs, a test on teachers' skills in the practical and reflective use of digital media during class is being developed for digital education. It is planned to use the newly developed test for digital education for the first time in education monitoring in 2020.

Embedment in the IZeF

The activities are linked to the IZeF at various points of intersection. On the one hand, the overall coordination of the quality assurance subproject is integrated into the IZeF in order to generate and consolidate synergy effects at the resource and competence level. In addition, further measures are integrated into the IZeF, for example, within the framework of the ViLLA project. In the context of the interdisciplinary workshops taking place at the IZeF, content and strategic developments are regularly reported on and discussed, and information and news are made available to the public via the IZeF newsletter or the homepage. It is possible to participate in the offers on methodology or actions for the promotion of young researchers free of charge. The data collected within the framework of quality assurance are available to the ZuS project participants as well as to interested academics for their scientific work.
